appreciate the sentiment, but wheelies aren’t my thing. plus it don’t look like it’s going to warm up again until the end of March.

While not in gory details, I’ve come to recognize a pattern in this part of the country that has winter...the first nice day of the spring, watch the news for the story of the motorcyclist killed. Admittedly, sometimes it’s from the 4 wheel drivers that forgot how to see them over the winter, but it’s also from the guy I remember in college who decided fraternity/sorority row was a good place to show off his supa wicked acceleration until a car backed out in front of him and turned him from a motorcyclist into an unequipped hang glider.

I ordered it! it’s a really great shirt. haha

LOL!
Pardon my 4-wheeled ignorance, but what’s the significance of 64°? Seems like a pretty specific number. Are there some physics at play that make that the maximum cornering angle?
![]() 03/15/2017 at 19:42 |

not really. its just really low.

I can imagine. I think motorcycle fatality/serious injury rates would be a lot lower if it wasn’t for:
1) drunk, helmetless guys on Harleys
2) 19-year-0ld squids who bought a literbike for their first ride and think roads are racetracks, and
3) people who zone out and lose situational awareness.
forcing myself to not do #3 has been to my benefit. I’ve had to react to situations which- while they could have tuned out bad- weren’t even near misses because I keep one very important thing in my head. When you’re sharing a road with cagers, watch the front wheels of their car. don’t look at the driver. they can be looking right in your direction and not see you. Watch the goddamn front wheels. Last year alone I had at least a half dozen cagers turn left in front of me, and I was ready to hit the brakes and clutch the instant I saw the front wheels turn.

Oh in the Bay Area on NPR traffic it’s almost a daily report for a bike down with a (yesterday was school bus). Half the time I swear it’s a big rig.

The problem is you can be a moto gp rider and any idiot can unleash their infinite stupidity on you. I have seen people in my union etc.. get into some bad situations because they were injured and can’t work. Then they have a collection for them. Ok so now I have to pay for your problem? I listen to NPR in the morning and there is always a bike down. I guess if some people just have to do it, whatever, but I can’t see riding to work when you have a wife and kids. I have my Datsun for driving fun, I am just fine in my CRV driving home with NPR on. I used to climb mountains and I was a Marine so I am not pushing my luck with CA traffic.

Well, after a bit of googling, it looks like 64° is a fairly common “big number”, but it’s not quite the bleeding edge of what’s possible :
Holy crap.

Supermoto guys are just fucked, lets leave it at that.
(well, if you want to drop one off at my place, we can leave it there too)

very true; my point was simply that folks on two wheels can take steps to significantly improve their safety.
can’t do it all, sadly.
also, it helps if you don’t have to deal with traffic like what’s in the Bay Area ;)

I can only give you one star. can you comment again so I can give you another one?

no, because I have been clipped. Nov. 2015, moved into a right turn lane and had some dick in a Pontiac G6 decide he was going to do what his phone told him to do without looking. I was able to scrub off enough speed to where the only consequences were a slightly sore left knee and a bent footboard.

My mom was also an ER nurse, which is why I’m not allowed to have a motorcycle, even tho I’m 26.

I prefer this one:

I’ve seen enough meat grinders in the Marines, I don’t need to see what a truck not paying attention can do to me.

In the mean time I’ll just hang my knees out really far while hanging off the side of the bike.
Ordered that shirt btw. Thanks for posting it, I wouldn’t have seen it otherwise.
